Meetings

Regular monthly meetings are free and usually feature a social half hour with refreshments, two informative presentations, and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the annual CAPA scholarship fund raising effort. Please review our Meeting Archive page to review some of our recent events. Upcoming meetings are outlined below. Our regular monthly meetings are currently held at Cape Cod Community College on the first Wednesday of the month. Located on Iyanough Road (Route 132) right off Route 6, it is significantly closer to more people than our old location and offers full handicap access.

GARMIN SEMINAR ADDED TO APRIL CAPA
Griffin Avionics has arranged a special Garmin presentation at the next Cape Area Pilot's Association ("CAPA") meeting, Wednesday April 6th at Cape Cod Community College. Griffen is an authorized dealer and service center for Garmin Electronics.
The Garmin 430 GPS was first released in 1998.  Do you remember what your computer looked like in 1998?

Now Garmin has just introduced the new state-of-the-art next generation of GPS, audio and transponder equipment and you'll be able to see it, touch it, and have a full demonstration of the GTN 650 and GTN 750 with touchscreens, along with built-in audio and transponder capability.  It is a radical upgrade from the Garmin 430 & 530 equipment which completely dominates General Aviation today.
Garmin was founded by Gary Burrell and Min Kao in 1991 (thus the name Garmin, "Gar"&"Min").  Burrell earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University and a graduate degree from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He went to work for King Radio, in 1963 just six years after it was started by Edward King, Jr. in a farmhouse in Olathe, Kansas. Burrell led the development team which created most of the now-legendary King products, and is where he hired Kao.  The two went on to lead the team which developed the first certificated GPS navigation system for airplanes.
Around 1990 Kao hooked up with an old school friend from Taiwan who had become an investment banker>  He offered to provide investment money for Kao and Burrell to start what became Garmin.  Each of the founders now has a net worth estimated to be over a billion dollars.
The new generation of Garmin gear to be presented at the CAPA meeting can be previewed through the following link:
